Rain started to drip down slowly onto Danielle Joy’s fingertips and forehead, the drops slowly trickling down over her eyes, cheeks and lips then falling from her chin. She counted each light splash on her skin. The bus pulled up with a cold splash that only just licked the toes of her shoes.
She stepped onto the bus with her fringe plastered to her forehead. Card swiped and she was already in her seat, bunching up her bag beside her and resting her head against the cold glass. OCD part 22.OCD part 2
It felt like no time at all when the bus pulled up outside her school. Danielle-Joy stepped off the bus with the same attitude she always had. Life is hell.
Up the stairs and into school took 147 steps and from there to her class it was 37 steps, 49 if she stopped at the bathroom. Back of the class, folders out again and her nose buried in them. She was top of the class, although she never spoke to anyone except to say yes, or no. Instead of letting the teacher know she had finished her work first, she would always count. Writing down each number, 1,2,3,4,5 as perfectly as possible.
